WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT

All children’s appointments must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

History

Initially our practitioner will take a full medical, medication & lifestyle history of the child if they have never visited the clinic before or review it if they have. All patient information is taken in a private room and stored on our secure database for privacy & security.

Assessment

Before any treatment, your practitioner will undertake a visual and sometimes physical examination to assess the cause of your condition and the treatment plan they will follow to achieve the best outcome.

Treatment

Once the child, parent or guardian and our practitioner are happy with the treatment plan, they will be treated in a clean environment, with sterile instruments (if needed) together with the latest technology so we can provide the highest standard of care in-line with evidenced based medicine.

How many treatments will they need?

Children generally fall into two categories in podiatry.

Firstly, those with skin and nail conditions such as verrucae, warts, fungal infections and ingrown nails. In these cases, they often require a number of treatments to resolve the problem.

Secondly, children with gait (walking, running) complaints would be assessed first and the complaint often corrected with orthosis (prescription insoles) and home physical therapy. This generally requires 2-3 appointments.

In both cases you will be advise of the expected number of treatments and cost at the initial appointment.

My child is nervous - will it hurt?

We understand that children can be very nervous when the visit our clinics, which is why we take our time to explain who we are, what we do and how we do it.

We make every effort to treat children in a relaxed pain free manor, however some treatments can be a little uncomfortable. In these cases we reassure the child and explain how it will feel and that it won’t last long.

Once we have gained their trust, we find children can be better patients than some adults 😊
